How We Track Cloud Expansion Signals

Data Sources

Every signal in AWSExpansion is sourced from public, verifiable data. We do not use scraped email lists, purchased contact databases, or unverified third-party data. The three core sources are:

📄 SEC EDGAR 10-K Filings

Annual reports filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. We extract revenue figures, year-over-year growth, and cloud vendor mentions from the Management Discussion & Analysis and Executive Officers sections. Source: SEC EDGAR via XBRL API.

💼 Job Posting Signals

Live job postings fetched directly from company careers pages using ATS fingerprinting. We parse job titles and descriptions for cloud and AI/ML keyword signals. Covers 12+ ATS platforms including Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday, and more.

☁️ Cloud Vendor Mentions

Explicit mentions of AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform extracted from SEC filings. These appear in risk disclosures, vendor dependency sections, and technology infrastructure descriptions — high-confidence signals of active platform use.

🏢 Firmographic Data

Company metadata including sector classification, employee range, headquarters location, funding history, and market capitalization. Used to enable filtering by company size, geography, and industry vertical.

Hiring Signal Types

Job postings are the earliest leading indicator of cloud infrastructure expansion. When a company starts hiring for AI engineers, ML practitioners, or cloud architects, they are building capacity — typically 6–18 months before that capacity shows up in revenue figures.

Revenue Growth Tiers

Revenue growth is sourced from the most recent 10-K filing for each publicly traded company. We calculate year-over-year growth from the XBRL-tagged financial data and assign a growth tier. Companies with declining revenue are separately flagged.

0 – 10%

Stable growth — established enterprise expanding steadily

Tier 2

10 – 20%

Healthy growth — active investment cycle, likely cloud expansion

Tier 3

20 – 30%

Strong growth — infrastructure spend typically accelerating

Tier 4

30 – 50%

High growth — cloud-native or rapid transformation phase

Tier 5

50%+

Hypergrowth — maximum cloud spend expansion likelihood

Declining

Negative

Revenue contraction — may indicate cost optimization pressure

ATS Platform Coverage

We fingerprint company careers pages to identify which Applicant Tracking System they use, then fetch jobs directly from the ATS API or structured careers endpoint. This gives us real-time job data without relying on job aggregators, which can lag by days or weeks.

Companies with no detectable careers page or a dead domain are flagged separately and excluded from hiring signal analysis. As of the latest refresh, 8,520 companies have been identified as having inactive careers pages.

Who Uses This Data

AWSExpansion is built for solution sales representatives at AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud who need to identify and prioritize accounts based on genuine cloud expansion intent — not just company size or industry.

The signals here answer the questions that matter to cloud sellers: Which companies are actively building AI infrastructure right now? Which are growing fast enough to be increasing cloud spend? Which have already named your platform in their SEC filings as a strategic dependency?

The data is also used by cloud-focused VCs tracking portfolio company infrastructure maturity, enterprise SaaS vendors identifying high-growth acquisition targets, and market analysts benchmarking cloud adoption rates by sector.

Data Limitations

10-K filing analysis covers U.S.-listed public companies only. Private companies are tracked by hiring signals and firmographic data but do not have verified revenue growth figures. Cloud vendor mentions in 10-K filings reflect what companies chose to disclose — actual cloud spend may differ.

Job signal coverage depends on ATS detection accuracy. Companies using custom-built careers pages or highly obfuscated ATS implementations may have incomplete job signal data. Careers page availability is checked weekly; newly dead domains are flagged within 7 days.

Revenue growth tiers reflect the most recently filed annual report. For companies with non-December fiscal year ends, the data may lag by up to 12 months relative to calendar-year peers.
